Point-of-sale, network, website
A restaurant in Melbourne's inner west had its point-of-sale die on it. We replaced the POS, rebuilt the network, and put up a new website, brand and words included, in a single day.
Clear Path Research is a small technology practice in Melbourne. We work with founders, owners, and the people who run things at Australian organisations, businesses and otherwise. We make tech do what the organisation needs: the systems it runs on, the things it makes and delivers, the way its people find things and get paid. We build it ourselves. We've been at it since 2008.
We're independent. Nobody pays us to recommend their stuff.
Either the technology is doing what you need, or you're working around it. We sit down with you, work out what needs to happen, and build what gets it there.
A small shop with the right people and the right tools can take a job from the first conversation to a live product without handing it to anyone: the brand, the words, the design, the code, the integrations, the hosting. Same people on the call the whole way.
The research in the name is real. We run experiments constantly, on our own time and our own kit, so by the time something reaches a client we know how it behaves. It also means we change course quickly when the first idea doesn't hold up. Small jobs ship in days. Big ones ship in pieces you can use along the way.
We were doing this long before AI turned up. AI is extremely handy and we use it all day, but knowing what to build, and what to leave out, is still a people thing.
Twenty years of this, mostly with organisations that are very good at what they do: research institutes and labs, people pushing the limits of their field, unions pushing education, some of the biggest builders and manufacturers in the country. We're used to rooms full of smart people with strong opinions. No two of these were the same job. That's the point.

A global environmental services company had a multi-system ERP integration processing about $100 million a year, and it wasn't working. Several systems, none of them built to talk to each other. We fixed it.
A network installation business ran everything through virtual desktops, so its crews couldn't get at site documents when they were actually on site. We moved them to Microsoft 365 with files synced to their devices, put the accounting package in the cloud, and redid the website. Recurring IT costs dropped by 80 percent.
A union had a political problem: hundreds of elected councillors, spread across the state, who had to debate and decide things together. We built a secure, web-facing portal that let them do it.
A consultancy had an internal toolkit its staff used on every job. We turned it into a product, built it out, and took it to market. It now does significant recurring revenue and has won a stack of industry awards.
A manufacturer had grown by acquisition into about 7,000 staff across what used to be separate companies. We built and rolled out an internal social network so knowledge could move between them.
A large business was paying for Microsoft licences it wasn't using. We analysed and automated their licensing, and made changes that save about $1 million a year.
A manufacturer was being bought by a regulated overseas company. We got the technology, the marketing assets, and the operations ready for due diligence and the handover. The deal closed and nothing broke.
A property and planning consultancy with a lot of research inside it. We built the research wiki, so the knowledge that lived in individual heads and old PDFs is findable by the next person who needs it. Then we built client portals, so the research could be sold to the people it was written for.
Clear Path Research is run by Ali Robertson, who has spent 20-odd years building things in the Microsoft stack and on the web. It's a small shop. The designers and engineers we bring in are people we've worked with for years, and the team grows with the work.
Our clients pay us and nobody else does. No platform partnerships, no kickbacks, no resale margins.
